TREAT YO'SELF š£.... (Within Reason, that is...š)
Life for me has recently been a rollercoaster of different emotions, some positive...and some negative. I would be lying if I said that my stress levels haven't recently skyrocketed in the past few weeks! Between receiving an offer for a new full-time position, to some health complications, to exciting events occurring within my family dynamic...your girl is STRESSED, and quite frankly, I'm overwhelmed. I didn't even realize the feelings of overwhelm until a few days ago but I've noticed some of the signs that have been creeping in this entire time. (Ex.: I get frustrated/irritable over the SMALLEST things!)
So I've honestly had to take a step back and re-evaluate how I'm dealing with being overwhelmed. I know you've probably heard this before, but I believe it needs to be repeated:
STRESS (ESPECIALLY IF CHRONIC) CAN DO A NUMBER ON YOUR BODY!
The good news, however, is that there are SO many ways to get your stress levels back on track! Here are a few of mine:
Express yourself in a creative way!
I know that I thoroughly enjoy creative expression (especially if it is in the form of writing). I noticed that I haven't been writing as much the past few weeks, and I believe that has definitely affected my mood! So whether you like to write, draw, paint, etc....just do it. You WON'T regret it!
Move my body in some form or fashion
Yes, you've probably heard this a million-and-one times before....but it is so true! Getting in some form of physical exercise literally releases feel-good chemicals known as endorphins (I knew my degree in psychology would come in handy someday! š¤š) are released and it helps boost your mood. Now, if you know me, I can't stand certain exercises (running will forever be my enemy)
BUT!!!
If you toss me into a pool or lake...or any body of water honestly, I will be in HEAVEN. It's just something about the feeling of water against my skin, feeling the sun beaming down on my face....that's literally my happy place!
Last, but certainly not least...I take myself on a solo date
So this is something that I've only recently started doing....but I WISH I started doing this a long time ago! And before you dismiss this suggestion, it does not have to be anything obscenely expensive or elaborate! Treating yourself to your favorite coffee order, your favorite meal, going to see a movie by yourself all counts! This practice has truly helped me fall in love with myself all over again.
10/10. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Let me know in the comments below how you treat yourself when you're feeling stressed and overwhelmed. I look forward to hearing from you all! š
