New Year...New Me?

Well, folks. We finally made it. This year is (in just a few hours) going to be a thing of the past. It's a moment of celebration and with the new year comes the opportunity to set new goals and attempt to achieve said goals.

However, while I was thinking on what my goals for the new year should be, I had to give myself a bit of a reality check! I was setting goal after goal, making large plans...while not even considering whether it would even be achievable within the timeframe I had given myself.

Honestly....most of them were not.

That was the hard reality of the matter. However, I realized if I break these goals down into smaller bits and pieces, I do believe that I will achieve these goals in a timely manner! Here are a few for this upcoming year:

  • Take bigger strides towards my goal of getting accepted into medical school.

Since I was in elementary school, my dream job has always been to be a physician. The medical field has always fascinated me and I loved (and still do!) learning about the human body. I am challenging myself in the new year to really hone in on this process.

  • Becoming more financially responsible....😬

Okay....moment of complete transparency. I am TERRIBLE when it comes to financial wellbeing. All you have to do is drop me off at a bookstore (*cough* I'm looking at you, Barnes and Noble *cough*) and I will come out with a large stack of new books when I literally have no more space on my bookshelf. I know. It's a real problem.

BUTTTT I have been focusing more on being more aware of different expenses, especially since my 26th birthday is rapidly approaching and I will have BIG expenses coming my way. If you know, you know.

Thankfully, I have been able to come up with a game plan and I just need to stick with it!

  • And lastly, and probably most importantly: Be more gentle with myself. Physically AND mentally.

As of late, I have had a host of health complications crop up and I won't lie: I was feeling discouraged. Dejected. Ready to throw in the towel. I was living on autopilot without actually stopping to think that I was running myself into the ground. I will be the first to encourage others to take care of themselves first...now it's time for me to take my own advice. In this new year, I will listen to my body's needs and treat it with the respect that it deserves. After all, this is the only body I'll get!

I'd love to hear all of your goals for this upcoming year. I wish you all a Happy New Year and I look forward to hearing from you.

Great post! I have several goals for the new year, but until I develop a solid plan for achieving them, I'll hold off on sharing any. Thanks for the motivation Brittany!
